Our story

Planning for places that matter

Born from a belief that the best planning happens at the edge

Mandy Jones founded The Urban Collective in 2026 after 20+ years in the public sector, most recently as Manager of Development Services at the City of Prince George. Her formative planning work happened at the literal edges of the city — the places where growth pressure meets farmland, where developer ambition meets community character, where provincial policy meets municipal aspiration.

She built the firm around a single conviction: that planning excellence requires holding urban and rural values in the same hand. Not choosing between growth and protection, between efficiency and beauty, between provincial direction and community voice — but finding the paths that honour all of these at once.

Today, The Urban Collective is an independent planning consultancy working with municipalities, landowners, and communities across British Columbia. We are proud members of the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).

What we stand for

Our values

Community First

Every plan exists to serve people. We measure success by the communities that thrive, not the approvals that get granted.

Urban-Rural Bridge

British Columbia's best communities honour their agricultural roots and embrace thoughtful growth — we help municipalities hold both truths at once.

Honest Expertise

We give clients the advice they need to hear, not the advice they want to hear. Our credibility depends on it.

Craft & Care

Good planning is hard work done carefully. We take pride in the quality of our documents, our processes, and our relationships.
